Biography/History noteLupold, von Bebenburg (approximately 1297-1363) was bishop of Bamberg from 1353 until his death, but best known now for his legal and political writings. He studied canon law at Bologna, graduating doctor decretorum in 1316, then returned to Germany and served in numerous ecclesiastical positions in the Diocese of Würzburg and Diocese of Bamberg. Although he was excommunicated in 1338 for supporting Emperor Louis IV, he was absolved in 1351 and elected bishop of Bamberg shortly thereafter.
