Wikipedia WWW site, June 3, 2005 (Sudoku, sometimes spelled Su Doku, is a number placement puzzle, also known as Number Place in the United States. Kappa reprints Nikoli Sudoku in GAMES magazine under the name Squared Away. It is also often included in puzzle anthologies, such as The Giant 1001 Puzzle Book (under the title Nine Numbers). The word Sudoku means "single number in an alloted place" in Japanese. The numbers in Sudoku puzzles are used for convenience; arithmetic relationships between numerals are absolutely irrelevant)
