Scope noteHere are entered works about the broad area of music in the theater, including opera, musical comedy, pantomime, revues, etc., and works about more than one such type. Musical works, often small in scale and primarily of the 20th century, that combine elements of music, drama, and sometimes dance in unconventional ways that result in works distinct from traditional forms are entered under Music theater. Music for theatrical productions consisting of musical numbers integrated into a dramatic framework is entered under Musicals. Music for theatrical productions featuring a series of songs, dances, and other entertainments without any unifying dramatic element is entered under Revues.
