2015916494: Krivit, Steven B. Lost history: explorations in nuclear research, vol. 3, 2016 Glossary (Cold fusion (idea): The proposed concept that nuclear fusion reactions occur at or near room temperature. An unproven idea that deuterium nuclei overcome the Coulomb barrier at room temperature at high reaction rates and undergo deuterium-deuterium nuclear fusion. Fusion relies primarily on strong-force interactions and normally requires temperatures in the millions of degrees. Cold fusion (history): Historical events that took place primarily in 1989 in the aftermath of the announcement of the claim by electrochemists Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons at the University of Utah of a "sustained nuclear fusion reaction" at room temperature.Low-energy nuclear reactions (LENRs): A class of nuclear reactions that occur at or near room temperature that are based on non-fusion reactions, for example, neutron-based reactions. LENRs are based on Standard Model physics and can occur in condensed matter under mild macrophysical conditions. Key steps in LENR processes, unlike nuclear fusion or fission, are based primarily on electroweak interactions rather than strong-force interactions. Unlike fission reactions, low-energy nuclear reactions do not produce nuclear chain reactions)
Email consultation with Steven B. Krivit, Dec. 28-31, 2015 (information for scope note to contrast with Cold fusion: LENRs are a class of non-fusion-based nuclear reactions that occur at or near room temperature, such as neutron-based reactions. Cold fusion is the hypothesis of nuclear fusion reactions that occur at or near room temperature. Synonyms: LENRs; Low-energy neutron reactions)
