Found inWork cat.: 96-222410: La Mercanzia di Bologna, c1995: p. 180 (there is no entirely satisfactory way of translating Palazzo della Mercanzia; a literal translation, Merchandise Hall, gives little idea as to its original purposes while Merchant's Hall and Chamber of Commerce somewhat misrepresent them; the building was constructed in 1382-84 in order to provide the Merchant's Tribunal (Foro dei Mercanti) and the communial customs and excise offices with a prestigious residence commensurate with the city's ambitions and her new-found sense of confidence and pride)
